CLOSING THE GAP
Close the Gap is a food insecurity program led by volunteer board members with support from other local contractors, community volunteers and partner organizations.
In April 2020, a group of concerned community members recognized that many undocumented immigrants in Washington, DC, could not access food services. Therefore, the Close the Gap program was developed in response to this gap. This food insecurity program focuses on undocumented immigrant families experiencing food insecurity in Washington, DC.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we fed 40 families per month by providing a $100 Giant Gift Card. We also provided PPE equipment (masks, gloves and hand sanitizers) as well as a turkey for Thanksgiving. This program is in partnership with many of the Greater Washington Hispanic Construction Companies and other non-profit organizations and local churches.
Since then, our program has grown to assist on average of 70 families per month and provided them with courses on nutrition, financial literacy and entrepreneurship trainings.
A summary of our activities can be accessed below. Our work is done in collaboration with the families receiving the assistance through their volunteerism. Please consider making a DONATION so that our work can continue to help others in need.
